Brookhaven Offers Birth and Postpartum Doula Services
In nearly every culture throughout history, women have been surrounded and cared for by other women during childbirth . Artistic representations of birth throughout the world usually include two other women surrounding and supporting the birthing woman. One of these women is the midwife, who is responsible for the safe passage of the mother and baby; the other woman or women are behind or beside the mother, holding her and comforting her. The modern birth doula is a manifestation of the woman beside the mother.
Lynn Leischner, Birth Doula, believes birth is a sacred event and that a woman has an
inner wisdom that guides her and her ability to birth her baby. It is
her hope that women and their partners experience the birth of their
babies as fully as possible. Her purpose as a doula is to empower women
through education and loving support, so they have the birth experience
they desire. Lynn has raised two adult children and is now ready and
excited to join women and families of the Shenandoah Valley to celebrate
birth and the joy of a new family.
She will support your birth
at home, our birth center or hospital. Her doula package includes two
prenatal visits for planning and education. Ongoing dialogue, by phone
and email, is maintained to address any concerns that might arise.
Lynn's commitment to your birth begins at the onset of labor, continues
through delivery and two to three hours after birth. One postpartum
visit is also included to be mutually arranged after your family has
settled in at home.

Misty has extensive training in natural labor support and prenatal education, and has attended over 150 births. Her doula package includes 2 prenatal visits in which she helps a family create a birth plan, educates them on birth and postpartum options, hospital policy and protocol, and newborn care.
