Brookhaven Offers Birth and Postpartum Doula Services

In nearly every culture throughout history, women have been surrounded and cared for by other women during childbirth .  Artistic representations of birth throughout the world usually include two other women surrounding and supporting the birthing woman.  One of these women is the midwife, who is responsible for the safe passage of the mother and baby; the other woman or women are behind or beside the mother, holding her and comforting her.  The modern birth doula is a manifestation of the woman beside the mother.

Misty Ward, owner and Midwife, is also available as a Labor Companion/Birth Doula for families that are not good candidates for out-of-hospital birth or those that wish to birth in the hospital, but want to have as natural and peaceful of an experience as possible.

Misty has extensive training in natural labor support and prenatal education, and has attended over 500 births.  Her doula package includes 2 prenatal visits in which she helps a family create a birth plan, educates them on birth and postpartum options, hospital policy and protocol, and newborn care.  As her client you have full access to her lending library of books and DVD’s and you receive discounts on other services offered at Brookhaven.  After the birth Misty stays to assist with breastfeeding and answer any questions.  Within two-three weeks after the birth she will see you for a final visit where she goes over the birth with you and answers any questions on newborn care and postpartum adjustments.  Once a contract is signed and deposit paid she becomes available by phone and email for non-emergency questions until six weeks postpartum.

Fee: $800
