Laura's Birth Story

We are so happy that we have found Brookhaven for our two VBAC babies.

LAURA HAS DELIVERED MULTIPLE GIRLS AT BROOKHAVEN, WE’RE SO GLAD SHE’S SHARING A BIT OF HER STORY WITH US!

My name is Laura Beery, and I am the proud mother of 4 beautiful little girls. The last two babies were born at Brookhaven and today I would like to share with you the story of my most recent birth.

In October of 2017 our family was devastated to find out that we had lost a baby at 11 weeks. The midwives were very supportive of us through this time and we hoped that we would in the future be able to visit them again for more positive reasons. In the beginning of January, we were excited and nervous to learn that we were once again expecting another addition to our family. I started making regular visits to the midwives and we were happy to see a sweet little heartbeat. Fast forward to the beginning of September. We waited and waited and waited for our sweet one to make her appearance. Finally, 12 days after her due date labor was starting. We made our first trip to the birth center Wednesday night but were discouraged when things stalled out early Thursday morning. We went home for naps and spending time with our older girls.

All day Thursday I had contractions that were uncomfortable but not regular. We had an ultrasound Thursday afternoon which showed that baby was doing well. Throughout the evening I tried to keep up with daily activities and went for a walk. I felt discouraged as I was having more pain but without a good pattern. Everyone in the house went to bed and I tried to rest. Just before midnight I was in so much pain and often enough that we called Misty to meet us back at the birth center. When we arrived, she had the tub filling for me. I was so happy to know that I was dilated to 9cm and that baby sounded good. I labored in the tub and soon started pushing. I expected this to be a short time as my last delivery I didn’t push long. After feeling like I was pushing for a long time without much progress, the baby’s heart rate started to drop. We got out of the tub and to the bed. By this time, I knew that I needed to do anything possible to get my baby out. She was coming out face up! I was so relieved when she was born. She needed a little bit of support with her breathing for a couple of minutes but did very well. She was able to nurse well soon after birth and we started our recovery period. I was surprised to learn that she was 8lbs 13oz and quickly noticed an adorable dimple on her left cheek.

Misty was wonderful throughout this process and I felt well cared for. We are so happy that we have found Brookhaven for our two VBAC babies.
