Lactation consulting is provided at Brookhaven by our phenomenal International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), Michelle Goullart. Lactation services are available to all soon-to-be or breastfeeding moms, whether you are a Brookhaven midwifery client or not.

Lactation Services We Offer:

• Prenatal visits: A comprehensive assessment discussion around your breastfeeding goals, personal experiences, preferences, postpartum plans, and body anatomy. The goal is to prepare and equip families to nourish their newborn in the best way possible. 
• Postnatal visits: These visits can be scheduled anytime to address feeding concerns. Lactation consultation can be extremely helpful 5-7 days after delivery when milk should have come in and baby’s feeding habits starting to form.  A visit at this time provides the opportunity to observe a feeding to ensure proper latch and support, evaluate the baby’s intake and output, discuss engorgement relief methods if needed, and address any lactation-related concerns. In the following weeks, postnatal visits can be helpful when concerned about baby’s weight gain, changes in feeding behavior, or changes in routine, such as returning to work. 
• Virtual lactation consultations: For matters that do not require in-person assessment, Michelle can offer virtual lactation appointments. This can be a great option for moms who have questions about topics such as weaning.
• Milk and Moon Support Group - First Monday of every month: Current and past Brookhaven clients are also welcome to join our monthly lactation circle! A space to come and chat with other mothers, establish community, and ask lactation-related questions without an appointment. This support group is open to all no matter how you are choosing to feed your baby! (Support group will run for up to 1.5 hours; in-person only, see events calendar.)

Brookhaven clients receive complimentary prenatal and postpartum consultation as part of their care package with us. Additional appointments can be scheduled at any time at a discounted rate.
