Lactation support services at Brookhaven are provided by Certified Breastfeeding Specialist Michelle Goulart, who offers:

Prenatal Lactation Appointments - Schedule a prenatal lactation appointment for around 36 weeks to go over your breastfeeding goals, any breastfeeding history, and set up feeding expectations and a plan based on your specific goals and family dynamics. This will also be an opportunity for you to ask lactation-related questions so you can feel prepared and confident going into your birth! (Estimated 30-45 minute appointment; can be done in-person or virtually)

Postnatal Lactation Check-In - Schedule a postnatal lactation check-in for around 5-7 days after delivery to check in and discuss how feeding is going. By this time, a mother's milk has typically come in, allowing the opportunity to observe a feeding to ensure proper latch and support, evaluate the baby’s intake and output, discuss engorgement relief methods if needed, and address any lactation-related concerns. (Estimated 1 hour appointment; ideally done in-person, but can be performed virtually if needed)

Lactation Support Group - Every week, Michelle hosts a support group on Brookhaven’s campus where you can come and chat with other mothers, establish community, and ask lactation-related questions without an appointment. This support group is open to all no matter how you are choosing to feed your baby! (Support group will run for up to 1.5 hours; in-person only)
