I found my passion for midwifery and natural birth in high school doing a career research project. I had begun my search with labor and delivery nurses but after reading up and watching a few documentaries I started questioning a lot of modern intervention that seemed unnecessary and that’s when I found midwifery. Midwifery felt like a calling and something I truly wanted to pursue although life didn't lead me right into it. I was born and raised on the central coast of California and after graduating high school I joined the US Navy and served for 6 years as a naval aircrewman. I met my husband through the Navy and after finishing our contracts we purchased a home here in Virginia where he is originally from. In 2020 I completed a doula training course while still in the Navy to try and get my foot in the door with birth work and I attended the birth of my nephew. After settling into our home in Elkton, I applied for an apprenticeship here at Brookhaven and I’m grateful to now be serving our moms in the area as a student midwife.
I enjoy working in the garden, preserving my own food, practicing herbal medicine, raising quail and chickens, cooking/baking and various textile arts as well as woodworking.
